As the Wanderers enjoyed the August 18th off weekend, choosing either to golf, watch the FRQ Women’s Finals or drink themselves into a drooling stupor (or hey, why not all 3???), the Ottawa Irish squared off against Bytown in a valiant, last-ditch effort to close the 5 point gap and draw level with first place Montreal Wanderers.

While I have no doubt the game was a cracker, the final scoreline of 31-22 didn’t favor the Irish. After seeing their pool-topping hopes dashed by the Wanderers in week 9, Bytown was determined to end their season on a high note by playing spoiler to the the Irish.

With one game remaining against Sherbrooke this coming weekend, the Wanderers sit at the top of the FRQ’s A Division with 37 points and no competitors in striking distance. Following a dismal 2011 season that saw the 2-8 Wanderers relegated from Super League, the 2012 Wanderers turned it around by winning the A Division and securing promotion back to Super League for 2013.

With promotion secured, the Wanderers turn their focus to defeating Sherbrooke in Week 10 and driving deep into the playoffs in their quest for the A Division Cup.
