Wanderers v.s. TMR (Pre-season)

The Wanderers and Town of Mont Royal “turf war” continued in a pre-season friendly match on Saturday, May 7th, that was anything but amicable. The slide line buzzed with excited as the Baby Blue took to the field (or was it just the drone?).

The Wanderers profited from a combination of fast hands through the backs, and fleet foot from winger Caleb Jordan for their first score in the corner. Not to be out shined, blind wing Fast Freddie Kacou exploited a scattered TMR backline defense to dash 60 yards for his first 5 points of the season.

Despite general Wanderer dominance, TMR managed to pull ahead with 3 devilish first half tries, including a well executed 8-9 blindside pick, and a line out maul.

But the rising Wanderers tide could not be stemmed in the second half.

After making another wide break, Fast Freddie generously brought the ball back inside to rookie outside centre Dimitri Bonkowski. With his trademark pace and physicality, Bonkowski mercilessly dispatched with his opposite number, and galloped in for the Wanderer’s fourth try.

After a nice break from newly christened back-row Jon “Pick-and-Go” Dextras to put TMR deep in their end, the Wanderers pack launched an unstoppable maul off the line-out, which ended with hooker Nicolas Ramirez flopping triumphantly in for the Wands fifth and final try.

The victory bodes well for the Wanderers first league game against Quebec City next Saturday, May 14th.

Stats:

Freddie Kacou – 2 tries
Nicolas Ramirez – 1 try
Dimitri Bonkowski – 1 try
Caleb Jordan – 1 try
Remi – 4/5 conversions
